
Dr. Shafern Tan
Dr Shafern Tan, MB BCh BAO is our final year GP Registrar and has been a member of the South West General Practice Training Programme since 2021. She graduated medicine from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2016. She obtained broad clinical experience in Malaysia ranging from adult medicine, anaesthesiology, orthopaedics, obstetrics, paediatrics and intensive care. She then moved to Ireland and worked in paediatrics at University Hospital Kerry, Mercy University Hospital Cork followed by neonatology at Rotunda Hospital Dublin and then as a paediatric intensive care registrar in Children’s Health Ireland Crumlin managing critically ill children. Dr Tan is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the United Kingdom since 2020.
Since joining the South West General Practice Training Programme she has gained further experience in general medicine, palliative care, rheumatology, psychiatry, obstetrics & gynaecology and emergency medicine. She has recently completed a Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. In addition, she is currently developing a special interest in point of care ultrasound and menopause. Outside of medicine her interests include taking advantage of Kerry’s mountains by hiking or cycling on its greenways.
